PURPOSERELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

I have been thinking about what to write about this week, and then it came to my mind to share what I’ve been going through lately, as I am sure that some of you could find something helpful from it. For the first time in my life, God intervened in my life on this level and it really blew my mind; but then I realised the magnitude of the situation and how my decisions would shape my life, so I can’t help but thank Him for His mercies, even if I still don’t see the whole picture and fully understand the impact it would have on my life.

I went to a park for a walk, very excited about how things are playing out in my life and how things are about to unfold. I was about to make some decisions that would open doors for me that I had been waiting for for a while and really wanted. I was excited that it seemed like it was finally happening. As I continued to talk, the Holy Spirit started to talk to me about this, and He said, "I never told you to do this." And then He demonstrated something to me in the Spirit; He showed me my calling on the inside of me and then removed it and said, "If you do this, I will remove your calling and you will not fulfil it." This was probably the scariest thing in my life.

I was shocked, upset, and scared of losing what God had promised me. But I didn’t fully believe what I saw, so I left it until the end of the day. Then, when I was home in the evening, I went into prayer for confirmation, really hoping that it was not God speaking. I laid on my face and prayed to God, and He spoke to me exactly the same thing. He said, "This was not Me; if you do this, you will never fulfil My calling for your life."

Then, I knew I had to choose: let go and fulfil God’s perfect will for my life, or let go of my dream and follow what I wanted to do. I chose God and His plan. It was hard; it was painful, but I couldn’t imagine not living God’s plan for my life. So yes, tears can endure for a moment, but there is joy in the morning. It was a sacrifice and a painful adjustment, but it only took God a few days to heal my broken heart and move on. I knew that if I decided to choose God’s way, He would heal me if I took the step of faith—and He did. I know God and how He walks with me; hence, I was confident that He would catch me when I obeyed and would heal my broken heart.

I want to take the time here to say that when things like this happen, it is very important to take the time to process it, grieve it, and allow God to heal you and restore you where needed before moving on to the next season. It is not wise to leave things unresolved before moving on because you will continue to bleed in the next season. It is important to forgive if needed, let go of any bitterness, grieve that things didn’t happen how you wanted or expected, and allow God to meet you there so He can speak and minister to your heart and prepare you for the next season.

And when you choose Him, the anointing and oil that comes afterwards is worth the price that you paid for it. You receive greater strength and power to do what God called you to do. But don’t get me wrong—once a decision is made to follow His leading, you have to continue to hold to the decision and keep choosing His way. That means closing the door that you were about to open and letting it go, and that means trusting God to open what He actually has for you and holding on to His promises and His ways when you could make it happen yourself.

But there is nothing worse than making it happen yourself. It is work because you have to keep justifying things all the time, try to make it fit how it should, and try to make it what you want it to be rather than acknowledge what it actually is. You ignore what you see with a hope that things will get how you want them to be, and even though some things can happen as you want them, there is nothing better than when God is just making it happen with no hard work and strife. Things just fall into place how they should be, and they are so perfect that you wonder if it’s real. So all the way, God’s way is the best way.

Yes, there may be a time of carrying your cross for a while, while taking your faith walk and trusting that God will do what He said He would do and following His leading, but He will never leave you without instructions and strategies on how to accomplish what He has for your life. The key is obedience—we have to make sure that we follow exactly what He is telling us, and in the time frame He is telling us, so we don’t miss His divine appointments and ultimately don’t miss what God has for us in the season. We need to ensure that we are walking with the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is our ultimate example and, guess what, He had His cross to carry too, but He endured it for the glory that was coming after this.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

Romans 8:18: "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."

There are wonderful things coming after you do what God tells you to do, because God will meet you where He said He would and will fulfil His promises. You will enjoy the glory that He has for you. Walking by faith with God will deepen and strengthen your relationship with God because you have to be totally focused and dependent on Him. You have to continue to look at Him and continue to listen for His guidance and instructions so He can lead you where He is taking you, because He is the only one who can take you where He promised you would be, and so you need Him to lead you there.

You have to continue to stay close to Him in His presence so His promises can be fulfilled in your life. This is where you also learn to totally trust Him because, as you follow His leading, you will learn that He truly doesn’t fail and does exactly what He has shown you in your secret place. And as things start to happen, you will learn to trust His instructions because you know that God will meet you where He said He will, and He will do exactly what He said.

It also teaches you about God and His nature. You’ll learn to hear His voice and how He speaks to you—that His voice is quiet and gentle, that He is leading you through peace and not chaos, that He calms the storms, heals you and your emotions, that He strengthens you for the journey, that He loves you unconditionally, and that His favour is upon you. You’ll learn about His forgiveness and grace when you mess up, and His leading on how to treat and love other people. God truly is like a person that you can learn about and know through your relationship with Him. But you have to walk with Him and learn about Him and His ways. He will speak to you and reveal Himself to you when you are on the journey with Him.

So my encouragement for you today is to follow God’s leading and instructions even when it’s hard and doesn’t make sense, because He will meet you as you obey Him and do what He tells you to do.
